  1. DMPEG is a Public Domain decoder for files 
  2. containing MPEG video sequences. MPEG is a 
  3. standardized format for compressed storage 
  4. of video (and audio), similar in concept to 
  5. JPEG for individual images. It, however, 
  6. provides higher compression by exploiting 
  7. the similarity of consecutive images of a 
  8. sequence, so called interframe coding. As with
  9. JPEG, the compression factor depends on the 
  10. source material and the desired quality of 
  11. the coded sequence. A compression to less 
  12. than 5% of the original material is not uncommon.
